As part of their science curriculum, kindergarten studies what animal's need to survive, including a safe home, just like us. In LMC students learned that animal's build homes in trees, caves, underground and in the water by listening to an Epic book. Next they viewed video of beaver's lodges, prairie dog burrows, hummingbird and hornet's nests, and a chimpanzee bed and learned how that animal builds their type of home. Finally we provided materials such as twigs, leaves, cardboard, cotton balls, bubblewrap, paper, and paper towel rolls and in groups, students chose one home to build, created a plan, selected materials and built a model home! Enjoy viewing the building process and their reflections:
