Half-Inuit Alaskan Nick is growing up in in a small remote village, where he learns to hunt and track the caribou and seal needed to feed and clothe his family. But when his half-brother, Ryan, who he hardly knows invites Nick to join him on a raft trip down the Firth River where Ryan plans to photograph the caribou run for National Geographic magazine, Nick leaves his family to get to know his brother. But with climate change, the river gives them unexpected challenges as does a strange, rare and dangerous hybrid bear, 1/2 polar and 1/2 grizzly.
