Continuing with our Mo Willems author study in LMC, we read many Elephant (Gerald) and Piggie books and then brainstormed a list of personality traits for each character. Students agreed that Mo Willems created Gerald as more cautious, a worrier who liked to be prepared and was very dramatic and a good friend. Piggie was calmer sometimes, but excited about many things also, brave and a good friend too. After understanding how Mo Willems created these characters, pairs of students worked on a short "Elephant and Piggie" story for Fall, Winter, Spring or Summer in which the characters did some activity related to that season, but kept the characteristics that Mo Willems created. Below are the stories from Mrs. Litberg's class and the other class stories are on the 3rd grade Student Project pages.
