We celebrated on the National Poem in Your Pocket day by sharing poems from our pockets, all day long. Some students folded their poems in paper origami pockets made this week in preparation, but everyone had a poem they had chosen or written for the day. Every hour a different staff member read a poem on the loudspeaker and called for a few minutes of poem sharing. Poet and author Heidi Roemer presented to K-2 and described a mask poem and Arlington Heights Mayor Hayes skyped with 5th grade classes and read Casey at the Bat. At lunch we held an open mike and many students shared their poems. Take a look and enjoy:
