Patton's Poem in your Pocket Day was an awesome tribute to poetry of all types, sizes and kinds. In preparation for the day, students perused poetry books and websites or wrote poems, copied them and created origami pockets to hold them. Today, students walked around all day with their chosen poem, or two, in their pocket, and shared them in class, at lunch, and in specials. Principal Larson started the day off with a poem on the morning announcements and then some classes shared poems with Dr. Bein and Dr. Olson through Google Hangout, classes at Ivy Hill read us their original poems, and one class even shared a few poems with Governor Rauner, who recited Casey at the Bat, for us. We hope everyone will continue to keep a poem close by, all year long.
