As part of our Mo Willems author study with the 1st grade, we discussed Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, The Pigeon Finds a Hotdog, Don't Let the Pigeon Stay up Late and The Pigeon Wants a Puppy, focusing on the persuasive arguments made by the pigeon to get what he wants. The students chose one of these stories to write their own persuasive reasons, using some evidence from the text, to persuade the reader "why the pigeon should not have a puppy", "why the pigeon should or should not share his hotdog", "why the pigeon should not drive the bus" or "why the pigeon should or should not stay up late." Next they created a persuasive story using the My Story or Chatterpix apps on the iPad. Here are Mrs. Copersmet's class persuasive reasons:
