As part of the Earth's Changing Surface science unit, 4th graders learned how the earth changes through deposition, erosion, tectonic plate movement and volcanic eruption. In LMC, students studied a National Park to learn which of these processes formed its incredible and unique landforms and took notes using Bubbl.us a brainstorm and mind mapping online tool. Next they wrote a script about the park's landforms and recorded it with an iPad, ultimately creating an iMovie about the park. Here are some of the geology travel videos from Mrs. Koenig's class:

As a culminating project for a year full of learning the alphabet, letter sounds, and beginning reading, students worked in the LMC to brainstorm four things that begin with each letter of the alphabet, in preparation for writing their own alphabet book. Using the iPad app Pic Collage each student created a collage for their letter and searched the web for the items that matched. Here is the ABC book created by Ms. Millichap's PM Kindergarten class. A - N: 0-X: Continuing with our Mo Willems author study in LMC, we read many Elephant (Gerald) and Piggie books and then brainstormed a list of personality traits for each character. Students agreed that Mo Willems created Gerald as more cautious, a worrier who liked to be prepared and was very dramatic and a good friend. Piggie was calmer sometimes, but excited about many things also, brave and a good friend too. After understanding how Mo Willems created these characters, pairs of students worked on a short "Elephant and Piggie" story for Fall, Winter, Spring or Summer in which the characters did some activity related to that season, but kept the characteristics that Mo Willems created. Below are the stories from Mrs. Litberg's class and the other class stories are on the 3rd grade Student Project pages. As third graders studied the history of Illinois and the development of the city of Chicago, they created an online collaborative timeline. First the class split up into groups to each study a period of the history and choose 4 or 5 events of importance during that period. After researching the who, what, where and when of the event and thinking about why it was important to Illinois, each student entered information for one event onto a timeline in Tiki-Toki. After entering the content, they chose a good image and an authoritative link to include for more information. Here is the timeline created by Mrs. Leigh's class: |
