As part of their science curriculum on Biomes of the World, we challenged each student to "design an animal that has the adaptations and characteristics necessary to survive in their biome." First they researched a biome (Desert, Taiga, Rainforest, Deciduous Forest, Marine, Coral Reef, Chaparral, Savanna or Grassland) to become an expert on its location, climate, the plants and animals that live there and the adaptations those animals have in order to survive there. Then each student designed an animal, drew their animal in Pixie, inserted a photo of their drawing onto a photo of the biome and in Explain Everything, an iPad app, "explained" their animal's survival features and how its characteristics would help it to adapt and thrive! Mrs. Costa's class is below and you can find the other classes on the 3rd Grade Student Projects page. View, learn, and see if you agree!
