This week we welcomed students into the LMC for a new school year and provided an orientation to help them understand the changes and additions we made since last year, including brand new mobile bookshelves! Each grade level orientation was a little different but each one gave students the chance to circulate among the shelves, look at new books and new organization. Our goal is to foster student independence in the process of choosing and finding books and other resources, and it began this week! In Kindergarten students learned about book care and how to check out, First grader's completed a pictures hunt around the library on paper, while Second grader's used the app Klikaklu to find and match books, signs and locations of key resources. Third grade followed clues on a QR code scavenger hunt that took them from book to book, and finally Fourth and Fifth grade students successfully finished breakout games that used a variety of book and puzzle clues to open many different kinds of locks. In the process, students located all the different fiction genre, the new STEAM section and the expanded series location. Take a look:
