In connection with the first grade classes study of National symbols and President's Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln in LMC, we examined photographs of President Washington and Jefferson's official portraits obtained from the Library of Congress. We used the "I See, I think, I Wonder" method in which student's first observed, with their keen eyes, that each President chose to include specific items in their portrait, and we brainstormed why they think the President included those items, based on what they had learned about that President, and finally students asked questions about what they observed. Next each student chose one Presidential portrait to reflect on using the Explain Everything app on the iPad and each student created their own "portrait" using the Pic Kids app, choosing a few items that are important to them to include in their portrait. Enjoy Mrs. Copersmet's class reflections and view the other classes on the First Grade Student Project Page
